Vascular Study of Femoral Neck Fractures by the Radioactive P^(32) Technique

Abstract
The varied prognosis for -intracapsular and extracapsular fractures is mainly related to the vascular supply of the femoral head and neck, and avascular necrosis is as yet an unsolved sequela of these fractures. By clinical observation and the use of the radioactive P32 technique, the seqeulae of femoral neck fractures were extensively studied by Dr. W. K Massie. While working with Dr. Massie I was impressed that, in the treatment of hip fractures, ¢¥biomechanical functional fixation with adequate reduction and firm impaction:brought about..more rapid union, thus decreasing the rate of avascular changes.
Isotope studies correlated well-with the clinical improvement and decreased numbers of avascular necrosis.
